A Letter From The UCSA Team
UCSA Brothers,
As the Autumn of ’13 nears, I trust and hope that everyone had a healthy and fun summer. Since our last meeting in February, your association has been busy as usual.
During our winter meeting, we organized and then hosted our first annual, “Comedy Night”, which was an overwhelming success. Thank you to all our members who attended and worked hard selling tickets and making this a really successful event for us. We have sent both $500 checks to the scholarship recipients of the evening and look forward to organizing another scholarship during our next meeting in October.
Secondly, the benefit event which has become our most successful, “Blaze on the Beach”, once again was a great day! Bar “A” turned out to be a great venue for us and we are still looking for more feedback from the membership with opinions on Bar “A” vs. a return to Donovan’s Reef next year. More than 220 attended this years Blaze and we had record numbers in Blaze shirt sales (over 70 dozen shirts sold!) and 50/50’s sold (560 tickets!). Thanks also to all those who attended and/or supported the event this year.
The UCSA also continues to support events such as Firefighters Union Golf Outing known as “Swings for Swings” which raises money to refurbish parks throughout the city and the Mayor’s NAACP Masquerade Ball. We also support the annual Fireman’s Picnic.
At our next meeting, scheduled for Thursday, October 17, 2013, we will open the floor for nominations for ALL elected positions on the board: President, 1st and 2nd Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
In order to facilitate the vote, we are currently looking into system to allow us to conduct on-line voting through our website. We plan on bringing this up to the membership at the meeting. We urge all members to visit the website for our quarterly updates keeping you up to date on all our activity.
As always, it is extremely important to make every attempt to attend our meetings. Two or three meetings per year and the investment in a website keep all members informed.
