Comedy Night Recap 2016

Posted Thursday, October 13, 2016

In a word, United Civil Servants Association’s annual Comedy Night was TREMENDOUS.

bottom2Every year, this event gets bigger and better. A room full of brother firefighters, family and friends (220 to be exact) ate, drank and laughed together; all while supporting our organization’s charities.

Iberia’s Restaurant has proven to be the perfect venue. Their owners and staff rolled out the red carpet for us and accommodated our needs efficiently throughout the evening.

During the night, the UCSA donated two $500 checks which this year ended up in the hands of the same charity: Coats for Kids.

We annually donate $500 thru the Newark Fire Officers Union to this amazing and worthy cause.

Our second $500 check was donated to the charity of choice of Councilwoman Gayle Cheneyfield-Jenkins, who in turn donated it right back to Coats for Kids. As our biggest supporter among the Newark City Council, Gayle then added an additional $500 of her own money, thus raising the total donation to $1500 for the night. That’s a lot of new coats for our city’s children!!

The Comedy end of the night was truly the highlight of all the good things going on.

Comedian and emcee Tommy Gooch once again proved why we ask him back every year to quarterback the show. He has an amazing connection to our NFD family and treats them to some eye-tearing laughs before handing the mic over to Rob Cioffi, who further kept the crowd warm for the legendary comedy of Bob Nelson.

You had to be there to experience his performance! HILARIOUS.

The UCSA is grateful for and gives many thanks to those who always step up and help make the evening a true success. I would like to extend a huge thank you to the Newark Fire Officers Union, Newark Firefighters Union, Hispanic Firefighters Union, Newark Firefighter Pipe and Drum Band, Newark Firemen Credit Union, Mike Giunta of Bayway Caterers, Councilwoman Cheneyfield-Jenkins, and our fellow brethren from Passaic Fire.

On behalf of the board members of the United Civil Servants Association, I would like to thank ALL who attended and hope you had as good a time as we did! Next year’s tentative date is Saturday, September 30, 2017.

Let’s do it again!

Danny J. Farrell President, UCSA
