We wholeheartedly embrace diversity. It has made operations like the Newark Fire Department what they are, because recruitment will happen naturally based on the Brick City’s population. However, as stated in this Merit Matters post, “The Concept of ‘Diversity as Value’ is Being Challenged in the Courts!” having diversity for the sake of diversity dilutes the quality of recruitment – and, ultimately, service as well.
