Reading Comprehension Necessary to Succeed as a Firefighter

Despite Judge Nicholas Garaufis’ ruling that reading comprehension is not required of firefighters in the Merit Matters article “On Having a ‘Positive Compliant Attitude,’” we could not disagree more. Firefighters most certainly need to learn and apply reading comprehension for their respective engine or ladder company operations so they can utilize them on the scene.
